EKO HOT BLOG reports that a twitter user, Ameerah Sufyan, has been sentenced to 12 months of psychiatric care for faking her kidnap on Twitter.
Sufyan had on June 14 alleged that she was kidnapped alongside 16 Abuja residents by men in police uniforms.
She was, however, found alone and arrested on June 17 after days of search amid Nigerians’ condemnation of the government and security agencies over worsening insecurity.
Sufyan later made another post apologising that the previous tweet was a false alarm
She was arraigned on Wednesday on the sole charge of misleading the police according to section 140 of the penal code.
Police prosecutor, James Idachaba, tendered a medical report indicating that Sufyan was mentally ill when she gave the false information.

In his judgment, the presiding magistrate,
Chukwuemeka Nweke, ordered that the defendant should be released conditionally to a probation officer.
She is to undergo psychiatric care for the next 12 months.
