EKO HOT BLOG reports that In a tense standoff witnessed at the residence of embattled former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, officers of the Nigeria Police Force and unidentified armed men prevented operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from effecting an arrest.
The drama unfolded when EFCC operatives, in a morning raid, attempted to apprehend Bello at his Abuja residence on Benghazi Street, Wuse Zone 4. However, they were thwarted by a contingent of policemen and armed individuals stationed at the property.

Earlier in the day, amidst tight security, Governor of Kogi State, Usman Ododo, visited Bello, accompanied by a retinue of security personnel and supporters protesting the siege on the former governor’s home.
Eyewitnesses reported a heavy presence of law enforcement, including EFCC operatives, police officers, Department of State Security (DSS) personnel, and members of Bello’s private security detail surrounding the residence.
Photographic evidence obtained by reporters showcased the tense scene outside Bello’s residence, with armed EFCC personnel visibly positioned around the premises.
At the time of reporting, the EFCC spokesperson had not responded to inquiries regarding the incident, leaving the motive behind the siege unconfirmed.
The latest development follows legal proceedings initiated by the EFCC against Bello, his nephew, and others over alleged money laundering activities amounting to billions of Naira. Despite legal maneuvers, including a court injunction and pending appeal, the EFCC has continued its pursuit of the former governor.
Responding to the incident, Bello’s media office condemned the EFCC’s actions, alleging a breach of a court order restraining the commission from harassing or prosecuting him. The statement accused the EFCC of pursuing a politically motivated agenda and urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene in ensuring adherence to the rule of law.
