The Federal Government led by president Muhammadu Buhari has finally suspended the controversial Ruga initiative, it proposed to resolve the clashes between farmers and herdsmen.
Ekohot Blog reports that the development was made known by the governor of Ebonyi state, Dave Umahi, at the presidential villa in Abuja on Wednesday, July 3.
The Ebonyi state spoke with journalists at the end of a meeting of the national economic council committee on the farmers-herders crisis.
Governor Umahi revealed that the controversial Ruga initiative was suspended as a result of its lack of consistency with the federal government’s national livestock transformation plan.
It was gathered that the governor of Kebbi state, Atiku Bagudu, and Simon Lalong, Plateau counterpart, attended the meeting.
Meanwhile, the Ruga settlement idea has stirred controversy in the country, with Plateau State governor saying the different names that had been given to the programme was the source of controversy enveloping it.
