BREAKING: Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Taoreed Lagbaja is Dead
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, has announced the passing of Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, who died at the age of 56.
A statement from the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed that Lagbaja passed away on Tuesday night in Lagos after a period of illness.
Born on February 28, 1968, Lt. General Lagbaja was appointed Chief of Army Staff on June 19, 2023, by President Tinubu. His distinguished military career began in 1987 when he enrolled in the Nigerian Defence Academy. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Nigerian Infantry Corps on September 19, 1992, as part of the 39th Regular Course.
Throughout his service, Lt. General Lagbaja exhibited exceptional leadership, serving as a platoon commander in the 93 Battalion and the 72 Special Forces Battalion. He played pivotal roles in several internal security operations, including Operation ZAKI in Benue State, Lafiya Dole in Borno, Udoka in Southeast Nigeria, and Operation Forest Sanity across Kaduna and Niger States.
An alumnus of the U.S. Army War College, Lt. General Lagbaja earned a Master’s degree in Strategic Studies, demonstrating his commitment to professional development and military leadership excellence.
He is survived by his wife, Mariya, and their two children.
President Tinubu extended his heartfelt condolences to the family and the Nigerian Armed Forces, offering his prayers for Lt. General Lagbaja’s eternal peace and recognizing his significant contributions to the nation.

BREAKING: Tinubu Swears In Seven Ministers
President Bola Tinubu has officially sworn in seven new ministers during a ceremony held at the Council Chambers in Abuja.
The newly appointed ministers include Nentawe Yilwatda as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction; Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi as the Minister of Labour & Employment; Bianca Odinaka Odumegwu-Ojukwu as the Minister of State Foreign Affairs.
Others are Jumoke Oduwole (Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment (Trade and Investment), Idi Mukhtar Maiha (Minister of Livestock Development), Yusuf Abdullahi Ata (Minister of State, Housing, and Urban Development), and Suwaiba Said Ahmad as the Minister of State Education.
Monday’s swearing-in came days after their appointments by President Tinubu and subsequent confirmation by the Senate.

As the widow of the late Ikemba of Nnewi, Sir Chukwuemeka Ojukwu, her extensive diplomatic experience and connections are expected to bolster Nigeria’s foreign relations.
Jumoke Oduwole, previously the Executive Secretary of the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council, steps in as Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, bringing her expertise in fostering a conducive business environment that is crucial for economic growth.
Other appointments include Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, now serving as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, who will focus on addressing the needs of vulnerable populations.
Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi takes on the role of Minister of Labour and Employment, aiming to tackle unemployment and labor issues in the country.
Also, Idi Mukhtar Maiha has been appointed Minister of Livestock Development, a vital position considering Nigeria’s agricultural sector. Rt. Hon. BREAKING: Tinubu Appoints Dr Tunji Alausa as New Minister of Education in Major Cabinet Shake-Up
President Bola Tinubu has redeployed Dr Morufu Olatunji Alausa to the Ministry of Education in a major cabinet reshuffle.
Dr Alausa, who previously served as Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, replaces Prof Tahir Mamman, who was relieved of his duties as the Minister of Education, EKO HOT BLOG reports.
A seasoned medical professional, graduated from the University of Lagos in 1993 with a degree in Medicine and Surgery, Dr Alausa completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Cook County Hospital, Chicago, from 1997 to 2001, where he also served as Chief Medical Resident.
Following his residency, he became an Assistant Professor at Rush University Medical School.
Alausa later specialized in Nephrology and Hypertension at the Medical College of Wisconsin from 2002 to 2004, furthering his medical career.
In addition to his U.S.-based training, Dr. Alausa completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the Royal Bolton Hospital and the University of Newcastle in the United Kingdom between 1995 and 1997.
This diverse medical background has earned him a reputation for excellence in healthcare and public service.
Appointed as Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare by President Tinubu on August 16, 2023, Dr. Alausa was sworn in on August 21.
During his tenure in the health ministry, he focused on improving healthcare infrastructure and addressing key public health challenges.
Now heading the Ministry of Education, Dr. Alausa brings a wealth of leadership experience from the health sector, with expectations of him spearheading critical reforms aimed at enhancing the Nigerian education system.
His redeployment is part of President Tinubu’s broader efforts to reorganize the cabinet for improved governance.
