BREAKING: Court Delivers Judgment On DSS Suit Seeking Further Detention Of Igboho’s Aides

  • Court has delivered judgment on the DSS suit seeking further detention of Sunday Igboho’s aides.

EKOHOTBLOG reports that Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out a motion seeking further detention of four out of the 12 aides of Yoruba secessionist leader, Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho, by the Department of State Service (DSS).

The motion was struck out by the Judge on Tuesday following its dramatic withdrawal by counsel to the DSS, Mr. Idowu Awo.

The DSS lawyer stunned the Federal High Court on Tuesday as he announced his decision not to go ahead with the matter when the motion was to be heard.

The lawyer, rather than going ahead with the motion, informed the court that he had filed a notice of appeal against the bail granted to four out of the 12 detainees, adding that he would prefer to pursue the matter at the Court of Appeal.

Justice Egwuatu subsequently struck out the motion following the no objection by the detainees’ lawyer, Mr. Sunday Adebayo.

EKOHOTBLOG recalls that the DSS had filed a remand application at the Federal High Court against the detained aides of Sunday Igboho.

The DSS, in the remand application, is asking the court to nullify the bail earlier granted to four of the 12 detained associates of the popular Yoruba Nation agitator.

The secret police, in motion no FHC/ABJ/CS/647/2021, urged Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court to cancel the bail granted to Amudat Babatunde, Abideen Shittu, Jamiu Oyetunji, and Bamidele Sunday.

DSS lawyer urged the court to remand the four detainees “pending their arraignment during court vacation”.

It would be recalled that the Federal High Court had earlier admitted the 12 applicants to bail after spending five weeks in DSS custody.

EKOHOTBLOG recalls that the DSS had raided Igboho’s Ibadan residence in the Soka area on July 1, 2021, arrested about 12 of his aides, and killed two of them in a gun battle.

The supporters of Sunday Igboho were later moved to Abuja where they have since been in detention.
