EKO HOT BLOG reports that a Federal High Court in Abuja has cleared former Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adosun, of the controversy surrounding her participation or otherwise in the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.
Recall that the controversy surrounding the participation of Kemi Adeosun in the NYSC scheme had resulted in her resignation in 2018.
However, in his ruling on Wednesday, Justice Taiwo Taiwo, held that Kemi Adeosun was not eligible to have participated in the NYSC scheme when she graduated at 22 years because she was then a British citizen.
Justice Taiwo, in his ruling on a suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/303/2021 filed by Kemi Adeosun with the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) as the sole defendant, further held that the Minister was not qualified to present herself for the NYSC service when she formally returned to Nigeria and became a Nigerian citizen at over 30 years.
The Judge added that the NYSC certificate, based on the constitution, is not a mandatory requirement for holding a political office in the country.

Justice Taiwo proceeded to grant the four reliefs sought by Kemi Adeosun to include “a declaration that the plaintiff, being a United Kingdom citizen as at 1989 when she graduated from the University of East London, London, United Kingdom at the age of 22 years, was ineligible to participate in the National Youth Service Corpse scheme, established by the National Youth Service Corps Act, CAP N8, LFN, 2004.”
