BREAKING: Court Ousts Sanusi Lamido, Reinstates Ado Bayero As Emir Of Kano
In a landmark ruling, the Federal High Court in Kano State has nullified the steps taken by the Kano state government to repeal the Kano Emirates Council Law.
Eko Hot Blog reports that this judgement effectively reinstates Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero as the Emir of Kano, overturning the appointment of Muhammadu Sanusi II.
The Kano House of Assembly had previously repealed the law, leading Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to depose Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero and reverse the creation of four emirates established by his predecessor. Subsequently, the law was used to re-appoint Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano.
However, the legality of this action was contested by Aminu Babba Danagundi, a key figure in the former Kano emirate, who brought the matter before the court seeking to declare the law invalid. Represented by Chikaosolu Ojukwu (SAN), Danagundi argued against the propriety of the law.
In a decisive ruling today, Justice Abdullahi Muhammad Liman set aside the actions of the Kano government and instructed all parties to maintain the status quo. This ruling effectively restores Aminu Ado Bayero as the Emir of Kano, a position he previously held.
The reinstatement of Ado Bayero marks a significant turn in the ongoing dispute over the Kano Emirates Council Law and the leadership of the emirate.
The court’s decision is expected to have far-reaching implications for the governance and traditional leadership structure in the North Western State.
