BREAKING: EFCC Arrests Former Nigerian Governor

  • A former Nigerian governor has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

EKOHOTBLOG reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a former governor of Abia State, Senator Theodore Orji.

It was gathered that the former governor was nabbed by the EFCC at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on Thursday.

Orji, EKOHOTBLOG gathered, was arrested by the anti-graft agency around 10am on Thursday before he was brought to the headquarters of the EFCC at Jabi, Abuja, for interrogation.

The former governor, who has been on the commission’s watch list, is presently being quizzed alongside his son, Chinedu, who is the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly.

It was learnt that Chinedu turned himself in on Thursday afternoon after he was notified of his father’s arrest by the EFCC.

As gathered by EKOHOTBLOG, the arrest of the former Abia State Governor was confirmed by the EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren.

It was, however, gathered that Senator Orji and his sons, Chinedu and Ogbonna, are under investigation by the EFCC for alleged misappropriation of public funds and money laundering to the tune of N551 billion.

The former governor was alleged to have embezzled the N500 million monthly security vote he received for eight years as governor of Abia State between 2007 and 2015.
