  • A Legacy of Leadership: He was a driving force in Epe’s development, leading the Eko Epe Caucus and advocating for unity and progress in the community.
  • Tributes and Farewell: Prominent figures mourn his passing, remembering his patriotism and wisdom. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Epe, Lagos State, is in mourning following the passing of one of its most revered elder statesmen, Otunba Bola Odebiyi, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Epe Club. He breathed his last on March 26, 2025, in a London hospital at the age of 88.

Otunba Odebiyi was a pillar of wisdom and a driving force behind various initiatives aimed at advancing Epe’s development. His dedication to unity, progress, and leadership earned him immense respect both at home and among the Epe diaspora.

For decades, Otunba Odebiyi championed the cause of Epe’s socio-political and economic development. He played a crucial role as the leader of Eko Epe Caucus, a platform established by a group of concerned individuals to address pressing issues affecting the community.

His leadership was widely regarded as purposeful, committed, and dedicated to the betterment of Epe.

Prominent Epe leader, Alade Saliu-Okulu, who worked closely with Otunba Odebiyi, expressed his devastation upon receiving the sad news.

“An Iroko has fallen. I became closer to my dear Egbon Odebiyi about five years ago when he was chosen to lead our Caucus. He provided the needed purposeful leadership.

He was a committed, dedicated and focused leader, a patriot par excellence. His leadership inspired me a lot. His death is a personal loss to me.”

Saliu-Okulu recalled their last conversation in February, while Otunba Odebiyi was in the UK and he was in Canada. During that call, Odebiyi passionately spoke about the need to resolve all issues affecting the unity and progress of the Eko Epe community. “I never knew he was bidding me farewell,” he lamented.

Otunba Odebiyi’s influence extended far beyond his immediate community.

As the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Epe Club, he was instrumental in fostering cohesion among the elite and grassroots of Epe.

His wealth of experience and guidance will be sorely missed by those who looked up to him. His passing marks the end of an era—one defined by wisdom, service, and unwavering commitment to communal progress.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later as family members, associates, and admirers prepare to bid him a final farewell.

In the words of Saliu-Okulu, “May Allah accept his return, reward his good deeds, and grant him Al-Janatul Firdaus. To his family, both home and abroad, my thoughts and prayers are with them. May Allah strengthen us all to bear this great loss.”
