EKO HOT BLOG reports that kidnap kingpin, Onwuamadike, also known as Evans, and his co-defendant, Victor Aduba, have been sentenced to 21 years imprisonment for kidnapping one Sylvanus Hafia.
Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Ikeja Special Offences Court handed down the sentence on Monday.
The duo were accused of conspiring and kidnapping Sylvanus Ahanonu Hafia at about 5:30 pm on June 23, 2014, at Kara Street, Amuwo Odofin in Lagos and were alleged to have captured and detained Hafia and demanded a ransom of $2m.
Both had pleaded not guilty to the four charges.
Prior to this, Evans had already been sentenced to life in prison. Justice Hakeem Oshodi of the Lagos High Court in February, convicted him and two others on two counts of conspiracy and kidnapping of a businessman, Donatus Duru, the managing director of Maydon Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
Evans who was arrested in June 2017, is sometimes referred to as “The Billionaire Kidnapper” because the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) believe he is one of the richest criminals in the kidnapping activities in Nigeria.
In some of his operations, he reportedly made amounts of up to 1 million dollars. The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Special Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigeria police force also described him as a very smart, crafty, and intelligent kidnapper having evaded arrest for four years even though he was on a most wanted list in three states (Lagos State, Edo State, and Anambra State).
