Recall that the organised Labour comprising of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress staged a walkout during the last meeting with the Tripartite Committee on Minimum Wage following the proposal of N48,000.
However, a source from the ongoing meeting with the FG in Abuja told Punch that the government has agreed to increase the minimum wage to N54,000
“The Federal Government has now proposed the sum of N54,000,” a source told Punch.
However, it is not clear whether Labour would accept this offer.
We Won’t Accept ₦100,000 As Minimum Wage — Organised Labour Tells Govt
Earlier the organised Labour had said it would reject the Federal Government’s offer of ₦100,000 as the new minimum wage because it has the capacity to pay more.
It also asked the government to be serious with negotiations on the issue of workers’ wages, insisting that it used the lowest minimum in arriving at N615,000 as the new minimum wage.
The NLC Head of Information and Public Affairs, Benson Upah, made this known in an interview over the weekend.
Speaking to Vanguard in Abuja, Upah said organised labour will honour the invitation tomorrow but advised the government to be serious.
