  • Founder, Lagos Women Forum, Princess Adeniran Ogunsanya Dies At 74

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Princess Adenrele Oyebo Oyetokunbo Adeniran-Ogunsanya, daughter of prominent Lagos lawyer and frontline politician in the First Republic and a close associate of Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, is dead.

It was learnt that Princess Adeniran-Ogunsanya died on Tuesday morning following an undisclosed illness. She was 74.

Reacting to her death, Jide Adediran, the convener of the Lagos4Lagos Movement, a former faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, posted on his known Facebook page, with an accompanying clip: “You didn’t die a coward…you led our battle from the front, and waited patiently to see us cross over before leaving, even though you have been battling with the pains for months. Mum, thank you for seeing us this far…we will surely miss you. Rest well Princess Adenrele Oyebo Oyetokunbo Adeniran-Ogunsanya.”

Princess Adenrele Oyebola Oyetokunbo Adeniran-Ogunsanya was born in Manchester City, England, to Otunba (Dr.) Adeniran Ogunsanya QC (SAN) of Rademo Ruling House of Ikorodu and Ellen Joan were both of blessed memory on 18th January 1948. She started her education at St. Agnes Private Nursery School, Lagos from where she proceeded to the Anglican Girls Primary School, Broad Street, Lagos, and thereafter moved on to Our Lady of Apostles Secondary, Yaba, where she spent one year.

On return to England, she was admitted at Brentwood Girls School, Southport Lancashire, England and later moved on to St. Mary’s Balslow, England. She obtained her Higher School Certificate at Herons Field School Chorleywood, Hertfordshire and holds a Diploma in French and Law from the University of Paris, Sorbonne France and the University of Lagos, Akoka respectively. On completion of her Law Programme at the University of Lagos, Adenrele began her working career at Shell (Nigeria) Limited, which later became National Oil and Chemical Marketing Company (NOLCHEM) and now Conoil, as the Personal Assistant to the General Manager, Personnel and Training Development. She also served as Employee Relations Officer. After spending 13 years in the company, she left to set up her own business and also to get actively involved in politics.

She has served on various ad-hoc committees both at the State and National levels. She was on various boards one of which was the Board of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC); member, World Constitution and Parliamentary Association WCPA). She was a Patron of Law Society, University of Lagos; Nigerian Youths Foundation; Nigerian Red Cross Society (University of Lagos Detachment). She is the founder of the Lagos State Women Forum.

On the strength of a political re-alignment in the year 2006, Princess along with her supporters left the PDP and joined the Action Congress (AC) which has gone through political metamorphosis to become All Peoples Congress (APC). In recognition of her contribution to the party’s success at the polls in the 2007 General Election, Princess was appointed the Secretary to the Government of Lagos (SSG) on 18th June 2007.
