Lagos State security agencies earlier today apprehended an unidentified fitness group using deserted roads for their workout sessions.
This is following the uproar by Nigerians on social media who complained that the group was violating the lockdown order and the ban on public gatherings of more than 20 people.
Senior Special Assistant to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on New Media, Gawat Jubril tweeted: “The Security Agencies making the process easier people that want to keep fit and exercise their body this morning on Gbagada Express …. Kudos to them .. A Healthy Lagos is a SAFE Lagos. #Covid19Lagos”
However, Yaba Magistrate Court has sentenced 34 persons to one-month community service for violating the social distancing directives of the State Government.
Following their plea to a one-count charge of working out in a group larger than 20 persons on the Gbagada-Oworonsoki Expressway, the court convicted the defendants.
The violators will be quarantined for 14 days at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, Yaba, or any other place designated by the government.
