BREAKING: House of Reps Bans Journalists from Covering Bobrisky, EFCC Hearing

Published

on

The House of Representatives has prohibited journalists from covering its investigative hearing regarding the ₦15 million corruption allegations involving crossdresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky.

This decision also involves the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCS).

The decision was communicated to the House press corps by the Joint Committees on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Services.

However, a source told EKO HOT BLOG what really transpired.

According to the source, security was tight, and journalists were asked to present identification before entering due to the large crowd.

Initially, a member of the press corps confirmed that journalists were told not to bother coming that morning. However, they were later informed that they could indeed cover the meeting before it commenced.

As tensions mounted, many in the media questioned the rationale behind the sudden restrictions.

The hearing’s significance, especially given its high-profile nature, raised concerns about transparency and accountability.

Observers and media advocates are now calling for clearer guidelines on press access during such crucial proceedings to ensure that public interest is upheld.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the lawmakers stated that the investigation into the corruption claims related to the EFCC and NCS in the Bobrisky case will be closed to the press.
