EKOHOTBLOG reports that the House of Representatives has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to declare bandits as terrorists in the country.
The call is coming barely 24 hours after the Senate called on Buhari to declare the bandits as terrorists.
EKOHOTBLOG had on Wednesday reported that the upper chamber of the National Assembly resolved that the President should make the declaration.
The Senate further asked President Buhari to wage a total war against the bandits, including bombing all their locations, to annihilate and eliminate them.
The red chamber also urged the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to declare all known leadership of the bandits wanted and track them wherever they are, for arrest and prosecution.
However, the House of Reps, in a motion of urgent public importance moved by Babajimi Benson on Thursday, said the move will ensure that bandits and their sponsors will be prosecuted under the terrorism prevention act.
The lawmaker said, “Such declaration to be done through a proscription order can be done pursuant to section 2 of the Terrorism Prevention Act, 2011 (As Amended).
“Such an order will officially bring the activities of bandits and their sponsors within the purvey of the terrorism prevention act. And any person associated with such groups can then be prosecuted and sentenced to penalties in the act.”
