EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba has announced the suspension of the Head of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT), DCP Abba Kyari.
The suspension of Abba Kyari was made known via a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, CP Frank Mba.
The Police spokesman noted that Kyari will remain out of service of the Nigeria Police Force pending the outcome of investigations.
In the letter dated 31st July, 2021, and addressed to the the Police Service Commission, the IGP stated that the suspension is in line with the internal disciplinary processes.
Baba further noted that the suspension will help the Special Investigation Panel (SIP) to carry out its investigations into the weighty allegations against Abba Kyari without interference.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the panel is headed by the Deputy Inspector General of Police in-charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID), DIG Joseph Egbunike.
According to the IGP, panel will further undertake a detailed review of all the allegations against Abba Kyari by the United States Government as contained in relevant documents made available to Nigeria Police Force (NPF) by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Baba added that the SIP will obtain detailed representation of Abba Kyari to all the allegations levelled against him.
The IGP noted that the panel will submit recommendations to guide further actions by the Force leadership on the matter.
He, therefore, reiterated the commitment of the NPF to the rule of law just as he assured the public of the sanctity of the probe as well as the absolute respect for Abba Kyari’s rights and privileges.

A US Court document has revealed the conversation between Abba Kyari and Hushpuppi over bribery and arrest of another suspected fraudster, Chibuzor Vincent following a dispute over a $1.1 million dupe of a Qatari businessperson.

It was gathered that the 46-year-old Deputy Commissioner was on Wednesday, July 28, named in a report by an officer of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FIB) as one of six persons who conspired to fraudulently obtain over $1.1m from the business person.
According to the documents released by the FBI, it was discovered that DCP Abba Kyari had a relationship with Hushpuppi which went on till the latter was arrested.
It would be recalled that Hushpuppi has pleaded guilty and will be sentenced to a jail term of 20 years.
