The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has said that the Eastern Security Network (ESNhas got a new commander.
The IPOB Secretary, Emma Powerful, made the disclosure while speaking on a Channels Television programme, Sunday Politics.
He, however, declined to make the name of the new commander public.
This comes barely 24 hours after security operatives in a joint operation stormed the operational headquarters of ESN in Awomama Village in Imo state, and killed Commander Ikonso and other members of the group.
Powerful denied ESN’s involvement in Saturday’s attack on the residence of the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, saying, “ESN are not the ones that attacked Uzodinma’s house. They cannot come for an operation and tell you they are ESN.”

When asked to explain the group’s operational activities, he added, “We pursue Fulani herdsmen from the region.”
Speaking on the newly-instituted security outfit by the South-East governors, ‘Ebubeagu’, Powerful said, “They are a ghost security outfit. There is no group like Ebubeagu.”
The leader of the group, Nnamdi Kanu, had in December 2020 launched ESN to protect the people of South-East and South-South regions from terrorists and bandits allegedly trooping in from the North.
