BREAKING: Judge Gives Fresh Order To DSS Over Detained Supporters Of Sunday Igboho

The Judge of a federal high court in Abuja has given a fresh order to the detained supporters of Sunday Igboho who were arrested by the DSS.

A federal high court sitting in Abuja has on Friday ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) to produce the supporters of Yoruba rights activist, Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho, who were arrested by the security operatives in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

EKO HOT BLOG recalls that the DSS had raided Igboho’s Ibadan residence in the Soka area on July 1, 2021, arrested about 12 of his aides, and killed two of them in a gun battle.

According to the DSS, some of the items recovered from Sunday Igboho’s residence include Seven (7) AK-47 assault rifles; Three (3) Pump Action guns; Thirty (30) fully charged AK-47 magazines; Five thousand (5,000) rounds of 7.62mm ammunition; Five (5) cutlasses, One (1) Jackknife, One (1) Pen Knife.

Other items are two (2) Pistol holsters; One (1) binoculars, a wallet containing Five (5) US dollars in one (1) dollar denomination; local and international driver’s licences in his name, ATM cards, and a German residence permit No. YO2N6K1NY bearing his name, among others.

The DSS also paraded 12 supporters of the activist, who allegedly attacked the DSS operatives during the raid on the residence of the Yoruba Nation agitator.

The supporters of Sunday Igboho were later moved to the federal capital territory (FCT), Abuja, where they have been in detention.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that owing to their detention, the Yoruba activist’s supporters through their lawyer, Pelumi Olajemgbesi, filed an application asking the court to “inquire into the circumstances constituting grounds of their arrest and detention since July 2, 2021, and where it deems fit admit applicants on bail”.

They further asked for an order “mandating and compelling the respondents to produce the applicants before this honourable court and show cause as to why the applicants should not be granted bail in accordance with the provisions of section 32 of Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015”.

However, the Judge of the federal high court, Obiora Egwatu, while ruling on the application on Friday, said there was merit in the application.

Egwatu consequently granted all the orders sought and asked the DSS to produce the applicants in court on July 29, 2021.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the applicants are Abdulateef Ofeyagbe, Amoda Babatunde, Tajudeen Erinoyen, Diakola Ademola, Abideen Shittu, Jamiu Noah, Ayobami Donald, Adelabe Usman, Oluwapelumi Kunle, Raji Kazeem, Taiwo Opeyemi, and Bamidele Sunday.
