  • Judiciary workers, under the aegis of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), on Tuesday morning stormed the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos and chased workers out of the court premises.

Judiciary workers, under the aegis of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), on Tuesday morning stormed the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos and chased workers out of the court premises.

The national leadership of the union had in a circular dated April 1, ordered the shutdown of various courts across the country as from Tuesday, April 6

JUSUN had declared an indefinite nationwide strike to demand financial autonomy of the judiciary.

A source at the court on Tuesday disclosed that the executives of the union stormed the court premises and drove workers out of the place.

“They said we should not be here because an indusrial action had commenced,” the source said.

In the circular signed by JUSUN’s General Secretary, I. M. Adetola, the union directed all states and zonal heads of the union to comply with the strike.

According to the union, it had at its last National Executive Meeting on March 13, 2021, in Abuja, issued a 21-day ultimatum to the government to implement the financial autonomy of the judiciary

It had threatened to resume its suspended national strike if its demands were not met.
