Nigerians Call Of For Arrest Of NCDC Ambassador, Funke Akindele & Husband, See Why

Funke Akindele, a Nollywood Actress, popularly known as Jenifa, is currently at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba where she might spend the night following her arrest, for hosting a party in contravention of the lockdown order in Lagos State.

A video of Funke Akindele and her friends at a house party organised at her Amen Estate, along Lekki Epe Road, went viral on social media earlier today, apparently in violation of the directive of the State  Government.

The video elicited mixed reactions from the members of the public as thousands of Nigerians were openly calling for her arrest for such irresponsible behaviour from a celebrity of her calibre.

Ekohotblog understands the party was organised to celebrate the birthday of Abdulrasheed Bello aka JJC Skillz, Akindele’s husband.

The Lagos State Public Relations Officer, Bala confirmed the arrest of Akindele and promised to arrest all other accomplices as soon as they are located.

Some of those in attendance at the party that the police are looking for, are  Singer, Azeez Fashola aka Naira Marley and Eniola Badmus and other close associates of Akindele and her husband.

Ekohotblog gathered that policemen arrived in Amen Estate off Lekk-Epe Expressway in about three patrol vehicles to whisk Akindele away to the police station.

The actress, who is said to be an ambassador for the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control and Dettol, has appeared in adverts calling on Nigerians to observe social distancing and hygiene.

She later apologised over the incident, saying most of those who attended the party were colleagues, who were living temporarily within the estate and could not return to their home states because of the lockdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Lagos Infection Diseases Regulations 2020 (the Regulations) prescribes a jail term of one month or N100,000 fine or both for persons found guilty of hosting gatherings or flouting the lockdown order.

Some are also calling for the cancellation of her endorsements contact.

Is a party held in one’s residence considered to be a violation of the public gathering directive?

The legal minds will have to figure that out.
