Meanwhile, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has announced the death of a Nigerian pilgrim in Saudi Arabia.
Muhammad Musa, the head of media operations at NAHCON, confirmed the incident in a press statement released on Sunday.
According to Garba Takware, chairman of the Kebbi pilgrims board, the deceased, Tawakaltu Alako, collapsed in her hotel in Makkah on Saturday.
“She was on her way to collect food in her hotel in Makkah when she suddenly slumped. Prior to that, she was hale and hearty,” Takware said.
“We quickly rushed her to the hospital, but she was already unconscious by the time we arrived.
“Everything else is proceeding as planned, including feeding, accommodation, and medical care. However, this tragic event is an act of God and beyond our control.”
Musa also noted that Jalal Arabi, NAHCON’s chairman, has extended his condolences to the Kebbi pilgrims board and the family of the deceased.
NAHCON began airlifting Nigerian pilgrims on May 15. To date, 20,154 out of the 65,000 scheduled pilgrims have arrived in Saudi Arabia for the Hajj.
