The source said: “He spoke glowingly about Dora his wife, and made a donation of N500,000 to the association.

“He was there with his son, Obum who now works with Anambra State government. We saw them off to the car and it was emotional when Obum hugged him (Chike) tight as both of them separated to join their respective vehicles.

“Obum was in a white Hilux while the man was in a Prado Jeep. He must have been killed when returning from the function.”

Reacting via a Facebook post on Wednesday, Buhari’s aide, Lauretta Onochie said Dr Chike was killed by IPOB militants.

“Dr. AKunyili has been murdered by IPOB. Dr. Chike Akunyili, the widower of our Dora Akunyili has been gruesomely murdered by IPOB.

His security detail, a priest and his driver, were also murdered. He came to Onitsha for a function in honour of his late wife, Dora. They were killed on their way back home.

May his soul rest in peace. God bless Nigeria”, she wrote.

IPOB through it’s spokesperson has denied any link to Dr. Chike’s Death, ascribing it to governorship aspirants in Anambra State. IPOB says it was an assassination by some governorship aspirants.
