Nigeria’s home-based Super Eagles have booked their spot in the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) after an impressive 3-1 victory over Ghana’s Black Galaxies at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, on Saturday.
After a goalless stalemate in the first leg in Accra, the Eagles B dominated the second leg with an explosive first-half performance that left their Ghanaian counterparts reeling.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Sodiq Ismail and Nduka Junior, both from Remo Stars, opened the scoring for Nigeria in the 18th and 22nd minutes, respectively. Rangers’ Kazeem Ogunleye made it three just three minutes later, giving Nigeria a commanding 3-0 lead before halftime.
Ghana’s Stephen Amankuna pulled one back in the 73rd minute, but his effort proved to be no more than a consolation, as Nigeria stood resolute to seal a historic qualification.
This victory was particularly sweet for the Super Eagles B, as Ghana had previously denied Nigeria CHAN qualifications in 2008 and 2022. Saturday’s triumph marked Nigeria’s return to the tournament for the first time since their runners-up finish in 2018.
The Eagles B will now prepare to compete in the 2025 CHAN, co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania, from February 1 to 25. Nigeria will aim to better their previous best performance and secure their first CHAN title.
