BREAKING: Nigeria Receives 10,000 Jynneos Vaccine Doses from US for Smallpox, Mpox Prevention
The United States of America donated 10,000 doses of the Jynneos vaccine to Nigeria on Tuesday.
The Jynneos vaccine, approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), is used for preventing smallpox and mpox in adults aged 18 and older who are at risk of mpox infection.
During the official handover ceremony in Abuja, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Pate, expressed gratitude to the U.S. government for the donation.
Pate, represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Daju Kachollom, notes the Federal Government’s commitment to improving the health and well-being of Nigerians.

“This donation reflects the spirit of cooperation and collaboration we’ve had over the years. The vaccine will be invaluable to our efforts,” said Pate.
“The Federal Ministry of Health is dedicated to ensuring a healthy nation through effective policies and partnerships. Our Coordinating Minister and Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of State for Health, are committed to transforming the health sector.”

Pate also acknowledged the support of development partners such as USAID, PEPFAR, WHO, UNICEF, and other UN organizations. He emphasized the importance of addressing all public health concerns, particularly given Nigeria’s large population, and expressed hope for continued support.
“Thank you for the 10,000 doses, and we look forward to further assistance,” Pate added. “We must ensure that every disease, especially those with significant public health implications, is addressed effectively. We extend our deepest gratitude for this collaboration.”
