BREAKING: NLC Boycotts Federal Government’s Meeting Over Warning Strike

Published

on

Eko Hot Blog reports that the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has boycotted a meeting organised by the federal government.

The meeting was convened by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, to avert the two-day warning strike already declared by the organised labour.

According to Daily Trust, the meeting, which was scheduled for 3pm on Monday, September 4, started at exactly 5:32pm and only the leadership of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) led by its President, Festus Osifo, showed up.

The NLC had on Friday, September 1, declared that workers across the country should embark on a two-day warning strike starting from Tuesday, September 5, over the current hardship being experienced by Nigerians.

The strike is in protest against the government’s decision to increase the pump price of petrol to N302 per litre, as well as the hike in electricity tariff.

The NLC had also threatened to embark on a total shutdown of the country in 21 days if the government does not reverse its decision.
