EKO HOT BLOG reports that Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the New Nigeria Peoples Party’s (NNPP) presidential candidate in the February 25th election, has been suspended by the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) on allegations of engaging in anti-party activities.
Additionally, the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) has also been suspended by the BoT. Dr. Agbo Major has been appointed as the acting National Chairman, along with Mr. Ogini Olaposi as the acting National Secretary, supported by 18 others.
The suspension, effective for a period of six months, followed a voice vote by party members during a special general assembly held at Rockview Hotels in Apapa.
This move came on the heels of the NWC’s recent suspension of the party’s founder, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, and the National Publicity Secretary, Major.
The Secretary of the BoT, Babayo Muhammed Abdulahi, revealed that Kwankwaso had been engaging in unauthorized interactions with prominent political figures including President Bola Tinubu, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, and Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party.
As a result, Kwankwaso has been stripped of his status as the NNPP national leader by the board. This suspension also led to the voiding of the pre-election Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that had been signed between the NNPP and the Kwankwasia Movement, The National Movement, and the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders. The BoT emphasized that this violation of the MoU necessitated a withdrawal from the partnership.
Acting Chairman Dr. Agbo Major conveyed that his team aims to address the divisions caused by the suspended NWC members. He pledged that the party would continue to maintain its people-oriented ideology, welcoming all displaced members to return.
The special general assembly meeting was well-attended by the new NWC members and party representatives from across the country.
