  • Aregebesola’s men have written to the party members ahead of the Osun APC Primary election.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that ahead of the Saturday’s primary election of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Osun state, a caucus within the party, The Osun Progressive (TOP) who are loyalists of the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, have written to the party members and said they are ready to accept the outcome of the primary election only if it is a free and fair election.

Speaking with our correspondent on Thursday evening, the youth leader of the TOP caucus in Osun APC, Comrade Abosede Oluwaseun said: “We are going to accept the outcome of the primary election only if it is a free and fair election and it is not being manipulated.

While speaking on why the TOP Leaders support Alhaji Moshood Adeoti to be the next governor of Osun state, he said: ““The fact is that as of 2018, Osun Central Senatorial District had ruled for 11 and half years and Osun West Senatorial District had only governed the state for one year 10 months and so, the agitation for the Osun West Senatorial District to produce the next Governor was fierce and huge. However, Aregbesola complied with the directive of Tinubu by swimming against the political tide and did everything possible to ensure that Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola emerge as the candidate of the APC. That decision alone fragmented the party such that a section of the party decamped to ADP,” part of the rejoinder read.

“It should be noted that there are so many factors that were responsible for the declaration of the last governorship election being inconclusive, among which was the decamping of a section of our party to another party, but the major factor was the mere fact that Oyetola was a weak candidate and unpopular in his Local Government, Boripe Local Government,” the factional leaders claimed.

“Governor Oyetola started a campaign of calumny against Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and politics of segregation within the party such that whoever is perceived to be associated with or harbour any interest in the legacy of Ogbeni or commitment to him is alienated from the government and the party no matter his contribution to the success of the party.

“Under Governor Oyetola, you have to be pro-him and anti-Aregbesola for you to have any consideration in the government and the party.

“The governor started a vigorous campaign of hatred and hostility excoriating the administration of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola to the extent that people were asking question: was this Governor not the same man who served as Chief of Staff to Aregbesola without rancor for eight years?”

This online medium reports that there are two major caucuses in Osun APC. One is the TOP caucus which is led by its chairman, Alhaji Rasaki Salinsile-led Osun APC caucus. The other is the Ilerioluwa caucus which is led by its chairman, Prince Gboyega Famodun.

The Ilerioluwa caucus is believed to be loyalists to the Governor Gboyega Oyetola and have been seeking support for his reelection. The TOP caucus who are loyalists to Aregbesola are believed to have been seeking support for Alhaji Moshood Adeoti to be the governorship candidate of the party.

This online medium had earlier reported that Aregbesola on Monday, dumped Governor Oyetola’s reelection bill and declared that former Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Adeoti, will emerge as next governor of Osun state.

This is as he said the party is back in the hands of true progressives who will work assiduously to win in the July 16 governorship election and openly denounced relationship with incumbent Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola.

A statement issued by his Media aide, Sola Fasure on Monday stated Aregbesola while addressing supporters at Ijebu-Jesa ahead of the party primary added that the present administration in Osun has deviated solely from the true tenets of the All Progressives Congress APC, while those at the helms of affairs have also jettisoned true democracy and the principles which the party and its heroes stands for.

He urged party faithfuls and stakeholders not to be disturbed but work in unison for the success of Adeoti in Saturday’s governorship primaries of the APC, noting that the Rasaq Salinsile led party executives is the authentic APC in Osun.

Aregbesola said: “Anyone who was with us when we started the journey to reclaim Osun for the progressives in 2004 would know we fought very hard for this victory we have today. We went through several challenges then but through thick and thin, we were able to succeed. This time around, we will succeed.

“We are ready to allow a free flow of democratic process to interplay here. We are not those who play God. We are resolute about reclaiming our party from those who think they can continue to abuse our legacies or even want us to be second fiddles in the party we worked and laboured for. This is our pride and we will sustain it.

“Let me tell you that God is with us. I urge all of our supporters to come all out and back us. Do not have any fears. We are the authentic APC in Osun. If in Lagos, the governor did not do well and the party decided not to return him for a second term, why can’t it be so in Osun? They know what they have done to us is bad and they want to continue the impunity. We will not accept it.

“Do not be disturbed by their threats. Come out en-masse and vote for our aspirant. In Shaa Allah, Adeoti is the next governor of Osun. We should all support him.”

In his remarks, the leading governorship aspirant of the APC in Osun, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti promised not to disappoint the party and ensure that the legacies of the progressive government from November 27, 2010 to November 27, 2018 is sustained and built on for the progress of the State.

Also at the event were the Chairman of the Party in the State, Alh. Razaq Salinsile; Former Speaker, Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Najeem Salaam; Chairman of The Osun Progressives (TOP), Rev’d Lowo Adebiyi, Ward, Local Government and State Excos who emerged at the last congress of the party, and other party members who came to show solidarity.
