BREAKING: Pa Ajilo, ‘Eko O Gba Gbere’ Singer, Dies At 91

Veteran Nigerian Highlife icon, Pa Chris Ajilo is dead.

As gathered by EKO HOT BLOG, Pa Ajilo died on Saturday morning after he was rushed to Wesley Guild Hospital.

Reacting to his demise, his friends, Orlando Julius and Latoya Aduke said Pa Ajilo was in sound health when they visited him on Thursday.

“It is a painful loss to us. I took Orlando to see him on Thursday at his house. Pa was so happy,” says Latoya, wife of Orlando Julius.

Some of his hit songs include, ‘Eko O Gba Gbere’, ‘Ariwo’ and ‘Emi Mimo’

Released in 1956, Eko Gba O Gbere gained currency among Nigerian audiences for decades, serving as an artistic representation of the cosmopolitan hurly burly life of Lagos.

Pa Ajilo’s legacy also includes teaming up with contemporaries, Victor Olaiya, Bobby Benson and others to form the Nigerian Union of Musicians, the first guild for musicians.

Ajilo was also a producer for polygraph turned Polygram Records who produced several albums notably Chief Olisa Osadebe’s Osondu Owendi.

Pa Christopher Ajilore was a native of Ijebu-Ijesa and died at the age of 91.
