BREAKING: Police Host Election Security Meeting

The Nigerian Police has hosted election security meeting

 

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has organized an election security management workshop to inform police officers, the military, paramilitary, and the general public of their responsibilities prior to, during, and following the polls as the country gets ready for the 2023 general election.

 

The International Conference Center (ICC) in Abuja is the venue for the event, which is being attended by senior serving military and police personnel, previous IGPs, the paramilitary, and media executives.

The inspector-general of police, IGP Usman Baba, said there were 400 trainees drawn from different security agencies, while similar training will hold in the six geo-political zones across the country.

 

The workshop titled, “Enhancing National Security Capacity for a Secure and Credible Electoral Process in Nigeria”, is being jointly organided by the Nigerian Police Force and a private firm, Solar Security and Consult Limited.

 

Some of the lectures to be taken in the training include “constitutional role of the Nigerian police force on election security”, “Election Security Management”, “Challenges and Approach, Best Practices In Election Security”, “Security of Election Officials and Materials”, and “Security of Voters, Protection of National Voters, Mandate of Inter-agency Consultative Committee on Election Security and Concretising Inter-agency Synergy on Election Security Operations”.

Also in attendance is the National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno (rtd), Chief of Defence staff General Lucky Irabor, diplomats, Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Auwal Gambo, Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Amao, representatives of political parties, non-governmental organisations, chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), among other participants.
