BREAKING: President Tinubu, First Lady Depart Brazil After G20 Summit

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu have left Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, after attending the 2024 G20 Leaders’ Summit.

During the event, President Tinubu engaged in bilateral talks to bolster Nigeria’s socio-economic reform agenda.

The summit, hosted by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, revolved around the theme: “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet.”

Discussions highlighted sustainable development in economic, social, and environmental contexts, global governance reforms, climate change, and the digital economy.

Key issues prioritized by the Brazilian presidency included the Israel–Hamas conflict and geopolitical tensions between the United States and China.

The outcomes of these discussions will be encapsulated in the summit’s formal resolutions.

The G20 consists of 19 member nations—Argentina, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Türkiye, the United Kingdom, the United States—and the European Union.

Nigeria’s participation, alongside the African Union, aligns with Brazil’s commitment to addressing food security and eradicating extreme poverty by 2030.
