BREAKING: Remains Of APC Youth Leader, Two Others Recovered From Mining Pit
- The remains of the APC youth leader and two others have been recovered from a mining pit.
EKOHOTBLOG reports that the remains of All Progressive Congress (APC) Ebonyi chapter youth leader, Ogochukwu Elem, and two others have been pulled from a mining pit in the State.
The bodies of the victims were recovered after the APC youth leader’s car plunged into the pit on Saturday.
EKOHOTBLOG had earlier reported that the tragic incident occurred in Ebonyi State on Saturday as a minibus conveying eleven travellers plunged into a mining pit in the state.
It was gathered that the tragic incident occurred at Enyigba community in Ikwo Local Government Area of the state.
It was leant that the bus, which was fully loaded with travellers, took off from the popular motor park known as Ochi-Udo Motor Park located along Afikpo Road in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.
EKOHOTBLOG further gathered that the occupants of the bus were majorly Ikwo indigenes who were returning home from the state capital.
However, the remains of the APC youth leader and two other victims were pulled from the pit with a crane supplied by the Ministry of Infrastructure and local divers on Monday.
The Volkswagen Golf car, which the victims were driving in, was also pulled from the pit on Monday.

EKOHOTBLOG reports that the governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, was on hand to direct the search-and-rescue operations.
Governor Umahi, however, mourned the death of the APC youth leader and the two others believed to be police escorts.
The governor further condemned the activities of miners who dig the mining pits indiscriminately thereby endangering lives and destroying the environment.
Umahi, therefore, said his government will set up a committee to look into the issue, warning that his administration will henceforth not tolerate such practice from miners in the state.
