BREAKING: Senate Launches Investigation Into Buhari’s Refusal To Sign 19 Constitution Alteration Bills

  • Last week, President Buhari signed 16 out of the 35 constitutional amendment bills transmitted to him by the ninth National Assembly into law.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Senate has announced the formation of a committee tasked with investigating the reasons behind President Muhammadu Buhari’s failure to give assent to 19 of the 35 bills on constitution review sent to him by the National Assembly.

President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, made this assertion on Tuesday in his remarks during resumption of plenary after the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly election.

President Buhari had last week signed into law 16 constitutional amendment bills out of the 35 bills transmitted to him by the ninth National Assembly.

Lawan commended President Buhari for assenting to 16 constitutional amendment bills, particularly the bills to guarantee the independence of state legislatures and the judiciary.

He, however, said the Upper chamber will engage with the Presidency to understand why the remaining 19 bills were not assented to.
