EKO HOT BLOG reports that unknown gunmen suspected to be militants of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) have attacked Omuma, the country home of Governor Hope Uzodinma, and killed a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), Fatmann Dooiyor.
It was gathered that Dooiyor, who was the Divisional Police Officer for Omuma in Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State, was among those who tried to repel the attack on the community on Monday.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the suspected IPOB militants attacked the Imo community on the day IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, was to be arraigned at a Federal High Court in Abuja.
Confirming the latest attack via a statement on Tuesday, the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Mike Abattam, stated that six of the suspected IPOB militants were killed by the police while no fewer than 11 were arrested.
The police spokesperson further noted that the suspected IPOB militants in convoy of three vehicles invaded the community but were repelled by police led by the Area Commander, ACP Benjamin Abang.
Abattam added that the police were alerted when the assailants were sighted moving in convoy into Omuma town.
He said, “The tactical teams of the command immediately swung into action, ambushed, and launched a surprised attack on the convoy of the bandits which resulted in the neutralisation of six of the bandits while 11 of them were arrested to the station.
“Unfortunately, the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Fatmann Dooiyor paid the supreme price.
