EKO HOT BLOG reports that a group of terrorists suspected to be the Ansaru division of the Boko Haram, attacked on Monday, at the military base at Polewire, Birnin-Gwari, in Kaduna State. They killed 17 Soldiers and left 40 others injured, after a brutal gun rumble among the two parties.
According to reports, the locals in the area that witnessed the attack of the terrorists narrated that the troop came in bikes, fully armed with high-class weapons, including; Rocket Propelled Grenades, and RPGs.
It was stated by sources that the terrorists were moving from Niger State to Zamfara State, using their usual route, when they came across the military base in Birnin-Gwari and decided to take their pound of flesh. The incident occurred around 5 pm on Monday.
The battle lasted for hours, suspected terrorists came in large numbers on bikes and successfully overpowered the military with their massive weapons.
They eventually burnt down some military properties, including 3 armoured vehicles, and walked away with their arms.
“17 soldiers were confirmed dead, and 40 that suffered injuries were taken to the Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna”, sources confirmed.
Another source added that 3 civilians including 2 vigilantes, were also victims, and they lost their lives in the process.
It was also declared that the military authorities failed to determine the exact number of casualties that were involved.

The Chairman in charge of the area in a statement affirmed that the terrorists are suspected to be from the Ansaru division of Boko Haram. He also confessed that he with other residents of the Birnin-Gwari area had to ran in search of refuge to protect themselves from the terrorists.
“So many didn’t sleep in their houses, The Kaduna-Birnin Gwari road is the most dangerous road right now”, he added.
