Initially, it was expected that President Tinubu would address the lawmakers regarding the state of the nation’s democracy.

However, this did not occur, as confirmed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, on Wednesday, May 29.

Speaker Abbas clarified that the change was due to an error on the part of the National Assembly. The President’s visit to the parliament was instead focused on commemorating the signing into law and the official commencement of a new national anthem, following the signing of a bill reverting to the old anthem.

During the joint sitting, Speaker Abbas informed senators and House members that all addresses initially scheduled for May 29 have been postponed to June 12.
