Breaking: Tribunal Sacks Senator Dino Melaye

The Kogi State Election Tribunal has sacked the Senator representing Kogi West senatorial district, Senator Dino Melaye.

The tribunal nullified the election that brought senator Dino Melaye to the Senate on the grounds of election irregularities recorded in the senatorial election.

Melaye revealed the development on Thursday via his twitter handle.

He said “I just lost my election at the Appeal Court and Fresh election ordered.”

It could be recalled that Melaye, a candidate of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was declared the winner of the February election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The All Progressive Congress candidate, Smart Adeyemi had challenged the victory of Melaye at the tribunal.

The Election Tribunal has however directed the Independent National Electoral Commission to organized a fresh election in the district.

The three-man panel led by Justice A. O. Chijioke in a unanimous judgment accepted Adeyemi’s appeal and ordered a re-election.
