On Friday, the fraudsters followed the 64-year-old woman to withdraw money at the bank where they met their waterloo.
The fraudsters, one Uche Awaize, aged 45, and Osadebe Aigbe aged 35 were arrested while the third suspect absconded.
They waited outside the bank hall where they asked the woman to go withdraw about N600,000 after threatening her with death.
On noticing the action of the 64-year-old woman, a bank cashier questioned her. She confessed that she would die if she talked.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer in Lagos State, Benjamin Hundeyin, the fraudsters had earlier extorted N90,000 from the old woman.
In his words, “Yesterday at about 1550hrs, a bank cashier noticed that a 64-year old customer was fidgety, receiving repeated calls and was in a hurry to withdraw N600,000. The cashier asked what the problem was and the woman said she would die if she talked.”
He said officers from the Ogudu Division were quickly contacted and they arrested two of them, while the third is at large.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects had first collected N90,000 from the woman. Effort is on to arrest the other gang member,” Hundeyin said.
In another development, men of the Nigerian Vigilante group nabbed a passenger with a dangerous weapon.
The passenger had refused to be searched after which they headed to the police station where they found dangerous weapons in the bag he had quietly dropped.
