EKO HOT BLOG reports that the announcement was made on Tuesday by the institution’s Acting Director of Public Affairs, Habib Yakoob, following the 77th Extraordinary Meeting of the Governing Council. The appointment, effective January 1, 2025, is for a nonrenewable five-year tenure.

However, the decision has been mired in controversy. Stakeholders accused the Governing Council of favoring Maikudi despite allegations that she lacked the requisite years of experience for the role. The disagreement extended to the council itself, with some members boycotting meetings regarding the selection process.
The statement, signed by the Council’s Chairman, Air Vice-Marshal Saddiq Ismaila Kaita (Rtd), emphasized that Maikudi emerged as the top candidate among 10 shortlisted individuals after a thorough evaluation by the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board, in adherence to institutional regulations.
Maikudi’s appointment highlights divisions within the university community, as debates over transparency and qualifications continue.
