The United States Embassy in Nigeria has on Monday acknowledged a letter to place the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, on a terrorist watch list over his alleged affiliations with the Taliban and Al-Qaeda.
The letter which was written by a popular activist, Deji Adeyanju, was forwarded to the Department of State Services (DSS) and the United States Embassy in Abuja.
In an update shared by the Co-covener of Concerned Nigerians on his verified Twitter handle, @adeyanjudeji, the letter was seen acknowledged by the US Embassy.
The embattled minister has come under public pressure to resign after audio and video recordings of his controversial comments alongside excerpts of an academic paper that explored his preachings across northern parts of the country were published.
Pantami has since denied having any ties with the terrorist groups or ethnic and religious bigotry.
