EKO HOT BLOG reports that Brentford striker Ivan Toney has been handed an eight-month suspension from all football-related activities by the Football Association (FA) due to his violation of the FA’s Betting Rules.
Additionally, Toney has been fined £50,000 and cautioned about his future conduct. The FA released an official statement on Wednesday afternoon, confirming the sanctions imposed on the player.
According to the FA’s statement, Toney has been found guilty of 262 breaches of FA Rule E8, spanning from February 25, 2017, to January 23, 2021.
However, 30 of these charges were subsequently withdrawn, leaving Toney admitting to the remaining 232 violations. An independent Regulatory Commission presided over a personal hearing and decided on the punishment for the forward.
The eight-month suspension will be effective immediately and last until January 16, 2024. Toney will also have to pay a fine of £50,000 for his transgressions. The FA has warned him about his future conduct, emphasizing the importance of abiding by the Betting Rules in football.
During his suspension, Toney will not be allowed to engage in any football-related activities. However, he will be permitted to train with his club, Brentford FC, only in the final four months of the suspension, starting from September 17, 2023.
The independent Regulatory Commission’s detailed explanation for the imposed sanctions will be made public at a later date. The FA has stated that it will review the Commission’s written reasons before making any further comments on the matter.
In response to the FA’s decision, Brentford FC issued a statement on their official website, acknowledging the independent Regulatory Commission’s ruling. The club expressed its awareness of Toney’s eight-month ban from football and related activities, which has taken effect immediately.
“Ivan was charged with breaches of FA rule E8 and had a personal hearing earlier this week.
“Brentford FC is currently awaiting the publication of the written reasons of the independent Regulatory Commission. We will review them before considering our next steps.”
Brentford FC further stated that they are eagerly awaiting the publication of the written reasons behind the Commission’s decision and will review them carefully before determining their next course of action.
The suspension and fine come as a significant blow to Ivan Toney, who has been a key player for Brentford FC.
Fans and football enthusiasts alike await the release of the Commission’s written explanation to gain further insights into the nature and extent of Toney’s breaches and the reasoning behind the imposed sanctions.
