Brighton Pull A Shock Effect On Manchester United In 1-0 Win

  • The Premier League gives Manchester United one last shock before the season ends.

  • The Old Trafford club once more fell to a defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion via Alexis Mac Allister’s goal.

  • This puts Manchester United back in a title race they wouldn’t want to be involved in.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Brighton and Hove Albion stunned Manchester United with a 1-0 victory at the Amex Stadium after a late penalty from Alexis Mac Allister.

After Liverpool’s narrow 1-0 win over Fulham on Wednesday night, Manchester United was looking to put seven points between themselves and Jurgen Klopp’s side with a victory at the Amex Stadium. For Brighton, they were still in with a big shout of finishing in fifth place and securing a spot in next season’s Europa League after a brilliant season under Roberto De Zerbi.

EDITOR’S PICKS

It was a frantic start under the lights at the Amex as both sides looked to create chances early on. Although neither team managed to find the breakthrough, it was still a very entertaining half of football as they went into the interval tied at 0-0. In the second half, Brighton grew into the match as they looked the more likely side to get the go-ahead goal.

As the clock ticked towards the 90th minute, five minutes of added time were signaled. Right at the death, after a corner was whipped into the box and cleared away, everyone thought that was the final act of the night.

However, a VAR check was going on for a potential handball against Luke Shaw. Referee Andre Marriner was advised to visit the monitor and gave a penalty.

Brighton’s Argentine World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister stepped up and dispatched the spot-kick, sending the Amex stadium into pandemonium.

The Man Behind Man United’s Woes

Fans were quick to react on social media, praising Mac Allister’s coolness under pressure and the team’s overall performance. As a result of the victory, Brighton moved up to sixth place with 55 points, four points behind fifth-placed Liverpool with two games in hand.
