Giwa stated this at a roundtable held with the Heads of Departments and Directors of the enforcement agency at the Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, urging them to brace up, reposition and revitalise the Traffic Management Authority.
The Special Adviser, who started his career as Senior Special Assistant on LASTMA in 2007, reminisced that LASTMA earned respect from residents at its inception as a traffic management agency.
He said: “I commend you for all your efforts, but there is a need to do more as an Agency. We need to have a positive outlook and shun all our previous negativism. I need not remind you that Transportation and Traffic Management is not only the first pillar of the T.H.E.M.E.S development agenda but topmost in the priority of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s administration.”
Acknowledging that challenges exist in the course of carrying out tasks of the Agency, Giwa undertook to address the issues identified in the areas of Welfare, Professionalism and Discipline.
Responding, the General Manager, Lagos State Traffic Management Agency, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, disclosed that the lack of inter-agency cooperation and collaboration had hampered the effectiveness and operations of the Agency in the past, stressing that the destruction of road furniture and street signage by vandals is another challenge that the agency is grappling with.
