EKO HOT BLOG reports that Heathrow Airport in London witnessed scenes of stranded passengers on Friday as British Airways was forced to cancel numerous flights due to an ongoing “technical issue.”
The cancellations began on Thursday afternoon, affecting at least 50 flights, with the possibility of further delays extending into the bank holiday weekend, as reported by local British media.
According to The Guardian UK, a significant number of inbound flights experienced delays of over an hour, leaving passengers anxious and inconvenienced.
Several individuals scheduled to depart on Thursday evening were informed of flight delays. In response, British Airways urged passengers to check their flight status before heading to the airport on Friday.
In an official statement released shortly before 10 pm on Thursday, British Airways acknowledged the technical issue, assuring that their teams were working diligently to resolve it. However, due to the high volume of calls received, the airline requested that passengers only contact them if they were scheduled to travel within the next 48 hours.
A tweet posted by British Airways at 11:27 pm on Thursday conveyed that their systems were operational again, albeit with intermittent issues still expected.
While the majority of flights managed to continue operating on Thursday, British Airways had to cancel a number of flights departing from Heathrow Airport due to the persisting technical problem.
The airline promptly reached out to affected customers, offering various options, including refunds or rebooking on alternative flights with British Airways or other carriers. The flight company expressed sincere apologies to their customers for the inconvenience caused by the disruptions.
At Heathrow Airport on Thursday, queues of passengers seeking assistance formed as a result of the flight cancellations.
Additionally, some passengers encountered difficulties with online check-in. British Airways prioritized canceling flights to destinations with multiple departures, aiming to accommodate affected customers and enable them to proceed with their travel plans.
As the bank holiday weekend unfolds, passengers are advised to stay updated on their flight status and to anticipate potential delays or disruptions. The Flight company continues to work diligently to rectify the technical issue and restore normal operations, striving to minimize the impact on passenger travel experience.
