British Rapper Stormzy Fined, Banned from Driving in UK for Using Phone Behind Wheel

Popular British rapper Stormzy has been banned from driving for nine months in the UK after being caught using a mobile phone while driving.

The incident occurred on March 7, 2024, when an off-duty police officer spotted Stormzy behind the wheel of his Rolls-Royce in west Kensington, London. Stormzy pleaded guilty via a letter to the charge of using a mobile phone while driving.

District Judge Andrew Sweet, who handed down the ruling, criticized Stormzy’s “dangerous and irresponsible” behavior, noting his “poor” driving record. Sweet imposed a £2,010 ($2,498) fine and added six penalty points to Stormzy’s driving licence.

Before the hearing, Stormzy already had six points on his licence for a previous speeding offence. In the UK, drivers can be disqualified if they accumulate 12 or more points within three years.
