Brume Reclaims African Long Jump Championship
Ese Brume wins her fourth African long jump title, Adeshina secured silver in high jump, and Ogazi took bronze in the 400m final.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Ese Brume, the bronze medallist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, clinched her fourth Africa women’s long jump title by securing the top spot at the 2024 Africa Senior Athletics Championship in Cameroon on Sunday.

Brume surged from second place, leaping a remarkable 6.73m in her final attempt to snatch the title from Burkina Faso’s Marthe Koala, who led with 6.72m after five jumps.
This victory marks Brume’s fourth Africa women’s long jump title.
Having previously triumphed in 2014 (Marrakesh), 2016 (Durban), and 2018 (Asaba).
Although her jump fell short of the 6.86m qualification standard for the 2024 Olympics, Brume secures her place in Paris based on her ranking.
Nigeria’s Prestina Ochonogor landed in fourth place with a jump of 6.28m.
In the women’s high jump final, Temitope Adeshina of Nigeria clinched the silver medal, clearing a height of 1.84m.
She finished behind Ghana’s Rose Yeboah, who secured the gold with a best effort of 1.87m, setting a new African record.
Yeboah’s victory marks the second time she has surpassed Adeshina for the gold, having recently edged her out at the NCAA Championships.
Likewise, Samuel Ogazi secured bronze in the men’s 400m final with a time of 45.47s.
He finished third in a race won by Cheikh Tidiana Tiouf of Senegal in 45.23s,
While Lee Eppie of Botswana claimed second place with a time of 45.39s.
Dubem Amene, the new national champion, concluded the race in seventh place with a time of 46.27s.
Nigeria’s women’s 400m champion, Esther Joseph, secured the bronze medal with a time of 51.94s.

South Africa’s Miranda Coetzee displayed a strong performance, leading the race from the start to claim the gold in 51.16s.
