Buhari Applauds Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed As He Wins Nobel Peace Prize
President Muhammadu Buhari has sent a congratulatory message to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed applauding him as he emerged winner of the Nobel Peace Prize.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed was declared winner of the prestigious award for his outstanding work towards ending the 20-years conflict between Ethiopia and Eritrea.
Buhari sent the congratulatory message to Ahmed via his official tweeter handle @MBuhari on Friday.
His tweet reads “I congratulate Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, who was today declared winner of the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize for his remarkable work to end the 20-year conflict between Ethiopia & Eritrea. This recognition is a good sign for peace processes within countries and across borders in Africa.”
Buhari further emphasized the importance of peace to the development of the African continent. Stressing the need for collaboration among African States to ensuring a peaceful continent.
He said “I believe that the development of Africa is strongly tied to peaceful co-existence, and to deliberate efforts by governments and citizens to sustain harmony within and between countries. We must do more in collaboration and partnership for peace across the continent.”
Buhari however hoped that the recognition of the Prime Minister’s work would further foster peace on the continent.
“It is my hope and prayer that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s global recognition will spur more interest in issues of peace in Africa, and bring beneficial outcomes to the entire continent,” Buhari added
