A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has said president Muhammadu Buhari’s will not attempt to stay in office beyond the two terms of eight years permitted by the Nigeria constitution.
Speaking with newsmen on Tuesday after meeting with Buhari alongside former interim chairman of the party, Bisi Akande, Tinubu said he was certain that Buhari would not do anything that would amount to violation of the country’s constitution vis-a-vis term limit for presidents.
Tinubu said “We cannot interject politics and assumption into everything. We have a nation to build; we have a baton to pass. You can depend on Buhari that he will not spend one hour beyond his tenure. He will do that. He will comply with the Constitution. So, how it happens? Read the Nigerian Constitution and find out from INEC website.”

“I don’t want to predict that one right now. I don’t want to do that subject now. The chances are as bright as a midnight star. We’ll continue to work for a better Nigeria and that’s what you need,” Tinubu said.
The former Lagos state governor also refuted claims of existing rift between him and the president, noting that there’s no love lost between them as he enjoys cordial relationship with Buhari.
