EKO HOT BLOG reports that President Muhammadu Buhari is in sorrow following the deaths of 19 passengers in an accident on the Kano-Zaria Road late Thursday night.
While reacting to the regrettable news, the President expressed his sadness and devastation at the unfortunate accident that took the lives of passengers who joyfully left their homes without knowing that it would be their last day on earth.
Buhari used a statement sent by his media adviser, Garba Shehu, to express his displeasure with the country’s high rate of traffic accidents.
He believes that, while the situation is concerning, it necessitates a deeper examination of the significance of safety regulations.
“I understand that the accident was blamed on over-speeding and this account worries me deeply. Our drivers should take safety regulations seriously; they have the responsibility to protect their passengers. It’s unfortunate that ours is a country where, despite regular public enlightenment programmes by road safety officials, our recalcitrant drivers treat the issue with indifference,” the President lamented.
He admonished road users on adherence to safety standards, insisting that “regulations can go a long way to protect lives.”
The President extended his condolences to the Government of Kano State and the families of those who died in the accident.
