Buhari lauds Anthony Joshua’s victory over Pulev

The President, Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) has hailed the impressive victory of Nigerian-born boxer, Anthony Joshua over Bulgarian, Kubrat Pulev on Saturday night.

As gathered by Eko Hot Blog, this was contained in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Chief Femi Adesina, in Abuja, Sunday, the President said “by retaining his IBF, WBA, and WBO titles, Joshua has given boxing lovers round the world, and particularly in Nigeria, something to cheer.”

He recounted his meeting with the IBF, WBA and WBO champion in London earlier in the year, describing British-Nigerian athlete as a humble, well brought up young man, “who will still go places.”

President Buhari also wished Joshua all the best in highly anticipated blockbuster fight against Tyson Fury, saying he has the prayers and goodwill of Nigerians going with him.

Joshua’s fight with the Bulgarian was crucially important, not in itself, but with regard to its transitory implication to set up the possibility of a potential mouth-watering clash against current WBC Champion, Tyson Fury.

Fury, in his characteristic smug talk had said that should next year’s encounter against Joshua become a reality, that Joshua would make the easiest opponent of his career; but, after last night’s scintillating performance by the 31- year old Joshua, his fellow Brit may want to buckle up for the great heavyweight clash billed for next April.
