Buhari Lauds Gowon As NYSC Clocks 50, Urges Continuity Of The Scheme

President Buhari has lauded General Gowon on the occasion of the NYSC’s 50th anniversary and urged for the scheme’s continuity.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that President Muhammadu Buhari has commended former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (retd), for the wisdom of setting up the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in 1973, which truly achieved the goal of national integration.
Femi Adesina, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, released a statement on Friday in which President Buhari extended congratulations to General Gowon and all past and present directors-general of the NYSC for their role in maintaining a 50-year legacy.

The President insisted that the NYSC remains one of the strongest ideals of nation-building, institutionally encouraging inter-cultural and inter-religious marriages, resettling people of various tribes in different parts of the country, exploring entrepreneurship and business opportunities in places, removing insularity among citizens, and enabling a new culture of oneness, brotherliness, and neighbourliness.
